The God Given Gift of Talent

Talent

One of the things that drives me to want more out of life…to want to try harder…work harder….set greater goals….inspire others to do the same…is observing the extraordinary talent of others.

Think about it for a second.

Haven’t you been inspired or at least in awe during a Broadway show….at a rock concert….watching a friend deliver an unbelievable best man or maid of honor speech?

We have the ability if we want to take advantage of it to observe talent on all different levels on a regular basis…and I strongly believe within that experience resides amazing potential to inspire and be inspired.

There is talent to be observed in just about any environment you find yourself in.

Heck – the guy in the picture above can balance a lot more spoons on his face than you or I can – that’s awesome!

Don’t give up on me here – I truly believe talent (when it is your own) is a topic you would typically avoid to talk about, but it’s essential to your ability to live life to its fullest.

I remember reading as a teenager that there is benefit in entering every social encounter with no expectation, but leaving with one bit of knowledge or experience that you didn’t have before….in order to grow and make you a better person.

My point is that there are buds of talent everywhere….and admiring talent….and more important figuring our what your talent(s) are…is an absolutely essential component of living your life to the max.

I leave Broadway shows inspired.

I leave meetings admiring people who decided to totally bring it and over deliver – it’s not always about skill, sometimes (often) it’s about heart – people can see it….and when you deliver, you leave people feeling inspired.

So…what is it going to be?

Are you someone that is on the lookout for inspiration or someone who constantly wonders what you are good at?

Let me be the one to tell you that you have extraordinary talent…..you are better than most people at one or more things….you just need to identify those talents, nurture them, accept and embrace them, and exploit (in a positive sense) them.

What are your talents?

Admitting what you’re good at is not gloating – get over it…that’s silly. Share what you have – build it, make it a big part of who you are and what you offer to others.

While I can go on and on about the importance of recognizing and embracing your talent let me make clear that talent can be anything.

Playing the guitar well is a talent.

Standing on your head or hands is a talent.

Public speaking in front of hundreds of people without shitting your pants before, during, or immediately after your speech is a talent.

Running the 50 yard dash faster than most people of your age is a talent.

Being an amazing parent is a talent….or an amazing cook…..or a deeply caring person…..or a nurse, doctor, surgeon, dentist, anthropologist, and detective are all inspiring talents…if you nurture those talents and become the best you can be at any of them.

Heck – making paper airplanes better than most and decorating interiors or exteriors of homes are talents.

Talent comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes.

We are born with the gift of talent; however, too often people spend all or most of their time fixated on the talent of others without acknowledging their own true talents.

If the purpose of your fixation is to allow your observation to inspire your own God given talents – power to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s what it’s all about.

It’s a circle and you are part of it, but without your participation you are missing out.

Next time you are inspired by someone’s amazing talent let them know…..and in the process think about how you too can be the one that someone walks up to in the not so different future and says – “Wow, you really brought it today – thanks so much for sharing, you are an inspiration!”
